When can I get in the Sauna?

You are welcome to jump in the sauna almost any time you want! If you’re just two or three, ask us to start the small electrical one. If you’re 5, 6 or 25 for that matter, we will show you where the wood is, you cut it, burn it, and relax in the sauna thinking about the marvelous firewood you just made!

Why should I bother visiting Studenterhytta?

Dinner, card games, sauna, an impressive selection of beer, wine, music, a fireplace and the great outdoors: The Student Cabin in Trondheim is by many considered one of the best Norwegian student welfare offers available. The Studenterhytta is still standing strong after celebrating its first 100 years in 2013, and it is still claimed to have one of the best views of Trondheim City from its prime location in Bymarka, just twenty minutes away from downtown.

What about that hot-tub outside the cabin?

Oh, you mean the hot-tub (Stamp) with the best panoramic view in all of Norway? It was build by students at NTNU in 2012, and we try to make it available to visitors as often as possible. Heating that much water does take some 6-9 hours however, which limits its use on weekdays. Organizations can rent the hot-tub for a fee that contributes to the work and upkeep of our facilities, and also covers the firewood used. We work hard to make the hot-water-wonder available whenever there’s a special occation at the cabin (Like the semesterly cabin-volunteer-party).

Where can I find information reg. the conditions around the cabin?

You can find skiing conditions and similar at:
http://skisporet.no/sortrondelag/bymarka
and http://skiklubben.no/marka-i-dag/ and http://www.skiklubben.no/weatherdisplaylive/upload/index.html .

These webpages are in Norwegian, but they are quite graphical and also: Google Translate.

FAQ for Groups/Organisations (8)

Deadlines

For events on Thursdays or Fridays during:
Spring semester — application deadline is 31. October.
Fall semester — application deadline is 1. April.

These deadlines only matters if your group is applying to use the cabin exclusively – if you want to visit us on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday, all we ask is that you let us know a week in advance (for big groups).

How many guests can sleep at the cabin?

We have 45 beds available in the 2nd floor of the cabin, but many organisations bring tents and sleep outside. Breakfast capacity is 120 people but depends on how many “hyttevakt”-volunteers stay the night.

Other days than Thursdays and Fridays

If your group/organisation is less than 60 people we recommend you to visit the cabin during regular opening days: Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Use the contact form for organisations, since this helps us plan your arrival. No deadlines apply. Sending us such information is not considered as a booking/reservation.

Why do I have to have to provide 3 prioritized dates?

Many groups/organisations apply for the same dates, and even though we try very hard to let all groups get their preferred date, this is not always possible.

Applications are given equal priority, the date of application is typically not taken into account when we decide who gets what date. We try as hard as we can to give all organizations their first priority date, and will contact your group if this is not possible.

Who can apply for access to Studenterhytta?

Groups and organisations can apply for specific dates and events, both closed (Thursday, Friday) and open (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday), using the form on this website.

Studenterhytta NTNUI is run by and for NTNUI, the sports organization for students of NTNU, but we are equally available for all students and student organizations in Trondheim.

Organizations or companies that do not represent or include students may also apply for rent/use of the cabin, but such applications will be evaluated by the cabin board on an individual basis. Students and student organizations will always be prioritized.

What food can we order?

If your group is booking the cabin for a closed/exclusive event, typically on a Thursday or Friday, we will ask you to contact our Chef David Browne at least two weeks prior to your event date. If you have any questions regarding a possible menu or suggestions/choices regarding food and similar, feel free to contact him at “david(alpha)studenterhytta.org” or call the cabin at 725 61 965 and ask to talk to the chef.

Less than 60 people

If your group/organisation is less than 60 people we recommend you to visit the cabin during regular opening days. Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Use the contact form for organisations, since we get email from several groups depending of your groups size its good for both to plan your arrival. The planning is not considered as a booking/reservation.

How to understand fotskatt for parties

We often get questions about our contracts and how fotskatt works. Here is an example

Antall dager frivillig
på hytta
Antall gjester Fotskatt (NOK) Rabatt Total rabatt Totalkostnad
fotskatt
Subsidiert totalpris
0 100 200 0 0 20 000 0
1 100 150 50 50 15 000 5 000
2 100 100 50 100 10 000 10 000
3 100 50 50 150 5 000 15 000
Det beløpet hytta fakturerer i fotskatt blir beregnet etter formelen Antall gjester * (200 – Antall dager som hyttevakt * 50) = Fotskatt

NTNUI groups pay a reduced fotskatt, which is 50kr cheaper for each day they supply voulenteers to the cabin. This maxes out at 3 days of voulenteering, for a fotskatt of 0kr per guest
